Looks like the PS3 hacking community is not taking a long holiday. A member of the ps3-hacks.com community, diabolix, has managed to successfully compile an Xbox 360 controller driver for Fedora Core 5.

Some of the more inexperienced PS3 gamers may not know what this means exactly. Well, if you're running Linux on your PS3, you can now use your Xbox 360 controller with it. According to ps3-hacks, it has been tested with Snes9x and Doom under FC5-PPC. You can download this driver by clicking HERE.

You need to copy this installer to you PS3's hard drive Linux partition and connect your controller via USB. Then run 'install-xbox360-driver.sh' from the terminal, enter your root password (only if you aren't root already) and you can use the Xbox 360 controller on your PS3.

Note that this only works under Linux and you can't use the Xbox 360 controller to play PS3 games. Sony needs to release some information about the driver framework for their firmware for it to work for PS3 games, according to diabolix.

He also mentions that the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers are different internally and that he doubts that this thing can actually happen. All the PS3's buttons can measure how much pressure you are applying to them, the 360 controller can only measure the trigger buttons. Racing games rely on this, you know that the harder you press the brake button, the harder you brake.

I'm currently using a PS3 controller, which is running on the drivers for Xbox 360 controllers, to play my games on PC. I tried my controller on some of the Telltale games that can use it. However, I'm seeing that, while the directional buttons and sticks work, my button layout is mixed up. For some reason, it thinks that Square is A, Cross is B, Triangle is X, and Circle is Y. Is there a way to configure these buttons, so I can play with proper controls, and not mess them up?

    ScpToolKit

A new program which pretty much replaces Motionjoy and DS3 since windows 10 has new architecture some of them are no longer updated and compatible with newer versions of windows. I have to completely freshly reinstall it sometimes but it should work. Though Scptoolkit has been recently buggy for me. So... I dunno. Have had issues of it just randomly not working anymore and I have to reinstall drivers from it's installer. Assuming Microsoft like always seems to intentionally try to keep Playstation controllers from working on PC without causing users a headache.

Lets say it should allow you to map controls with the ScpToolkit Settings Manager without even fiddling with in game controls.

  • Just tested it, and I was completely disappointed that after all that installation, it made my controller unable to work with ANYTHING.

sighs I was afraid of that. I've been having problems with it recently, used to work flawlessly. It was worth a shot though.

Plug it into the PC, Selection the Driver Install that should of came with ScpToolKit, and select the PS3 driver option only. You might have to do it every time you want to use the controller. Used to not do this but I'm assuming Microsoft who hates PS3/PS4 controllers being used on PC as it hurts their Xbox controller sales likely intentionally broke it again with an update.

I remember when the PS3 came out all you had to do was plug the controller in and the auto driver install would work perfect on windows xp. Didn't take long for Microsoft to break that as well. lol
