Images of Supermodel 2 Arcade Games.

The Sega Supermodel 2 board was released in 1993, and many great games were released for it. Games, like Virtual Fighter, Daytona USA, The House of the Dead, Virtual Cop, Virtual On to name a few. It was a very successful arcade board, and had very impressive graphics and 3d graphics capabilities. It had a 6 DSP math co-processors: 6× Fujitsu TGP MB8623, and this enabled this board to show off its impressive 3d graphics. Back in 1993, there were no 3d accelerators for console systems, and computers. Arcade games were superior to home video game console systems, and computers up until 1997. With the releases of console systems, like the Playstation 1, Sega Saturn, and 3d accelerators like the 3dfx Voodoo 3d graphics accelerators marked the end of arcade domination of the gaming market.

If you were old enough to remember the mid 1990s, you would see games that used this board, like Virtual On, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, Daytona USA, and House of the Dead. Those were games, you would see in most arcades at the time. Less and less people were going to arcades by the mid 1990s. The reason why people went to arcades in the mid 1990s was to play against or with other people. Back in the mid 1990s, most people used dial up internet which was very slow. People could play against others online with dial-up, but it wasn’t always ideal. There was a lot of lag, and performance issues. The Supermodel 2 board was a very successful arcade board, and it was the last arcade board that was commercially successful. The Supermodel 2 emulator was released in 2014, so it was recently released. You can download it from the Sega Retro site. https://segaretro.org/Model_2_Emulator You will need a fast computer to run. I ran it on my I7-4790 with a Geforce GTX 770, and it ran fine.
